April 2-8, 2019, Culinaria Director Pepper Bowen spent some time in Havana learning about Cuban food production and access similarities to and differences from New Orleans. Affectionately known as the northernmost Carribean City, New Orleans’ culture, music, and (tourist) economy are starkly similar to Havana. However, you may be surprised to learn that there are also similarities in food production, access, and (to a lesser extent) security. Food justice takes on a very different dynamic from the US.
